A local court in Pune district Friday remanded Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Dr Vandana Mohite in police custody for three days. Mohite is the president of NCP’s doctor cell for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency.

The police said Mohite assaulted police naik Nitin Kohak at the Kasurdi toll post Thursday. The traffic towards Pune was blocked at the time owing to the Palkhi procession.

Mohite allegedly entered into an argument with Kohak, slapped him, and also removed the barricades at the spot.

Kohak lodged the FIR against Mohite at the Yavat police station on the same day, following which the police arrested the politician from her residence in the Daund area.

Mohite has been booked under Sections 353 (causing disturbance in government work), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police inspector Hemant Shendge of Yavat police station said, “Court has remanded Mohite in police custody for three days. Further investigation is on.”
