The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday announced plans for 27 more biogas plants in various parts of city to process the generated waste.
In response to the issue of garbage across the city,raised by BJP corporator Medha Kulkarni,Additional Municipal Commissioner,Naresh Zurmure,said the civic administration has taken up the work for 27 more biogas plants across the city.
At present,there are 15 biogas plants,each catering to five tonne of waste. The model was a success as the civic body managed to convert waste into electricity and manure.
The PMC has 520 amenity spaces and 27 places have been selected for biogas plant for which the tender process have been initiated, Zurmure said.
Earlier,Independent corporator Ujjwal Keskar took the administration to task for appointing two civic officers for management of waste.
A state government deputed officer of the rank of additional collector was appointed for the purpose,but the civic body has instead distributed responsibilities among two senior officers, he said,adding,the the civic administration should give responsibility of the department to one officer only.
