Builder’s mother seeks place in list of successors, court seeks evidence

Almost a year after builder Nikhil Rane was murdered, his mother Shalini Rane recently submitted an application in the Pune district court alleging that her daughter-in-law purposefully avoided her name from the list of successors.

Almost a year after builder Nikhil Rane was murdered, his mother Shalini Rane recently submitted an application in the Pune district court alleging that her daughter-in-law purposefully avoided her name from the list of successors.

Acting on the application, additional chief judicial magistrate V K Kadam has ordered to submit evidences regarding the allegations.

Nikhil Rane was murdered in November 2009 near his office on Jungli Maharaj Road. On December 29,2009,Rane’s wife Ashwini mentioned her father Vijaysinh Krishnarao Chavan as Rane’s partner.

“After the death of a son,his mother is an equal successor as are his wife and children. However,my daughter-in-law has purposefully avoided my name from the list of successors. More than the money,I want to ensure that my son’s murderers are duly punished. However,I am surely against the way my daughter-in-law has tried to cheat me,” said Shalini Rane.

Rane had founded ‘Fortune Developers’ with seven partners. Eventually, six partners opted out of the firm, while Ashwini Rane was made partner.

Fortune Developers was renamed as Rane Developers in 2007. According to Indian Partnership Act 1932,all legal successors of Nikhil Rane, including Shalini Rane should have been automatically mentioned as partners in the firm. “However, instead of doing so,Ashwini Rane avoided my name and put her father’s name as partner of the firm,’ stated Shalini Rane in her application.

Shalini Rane has also alleged that Ashwini Rane had forged the paperwork submitted to Pune Municipal Corporation.
