Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare on Friday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had himself to blame for his arrest in the liquor policy case.
Kejriwal was arrested on Thursday night by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged liquor policy-linked money laundering case.
Kejriwal and Hazare worked together for about three years when they were part of the anti-corruption movement spearheaded by the India Against Corruption (IAC) between 2010-2013. Their relations soured after Kejriwal decided to form a political party while Hazare continued with activism. Hazare has often criticised Kejriwal since.
Speaking to media persons in Maharashtra’s Ralegan Siddhi, Hazare said, “I had written a letter to him (Arvind Kejriwal) when I got to know about the plan to form a new liquor policy in Delhi. I told him that it is your prerogative to decide as a government but why are you focusing on liquor which leads to a lot of trouble in the society? There are other issues in society, everyone knows that liquor is bad. Then is it proper to make a policy on liquor? This is what I told him.”
“Despite my letters, he did not change his stance and finally he got arrested. He has been arrested because of his deeds. Had he not made the liquor policy there was no question of arresting him. Now that he has been arrested the courts and government will decide what’s proper and what’s improper,” Hazare added.
