Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Friday expressed concern over population growth and suggested that people should not have more than two children. The NCP chief also suggested that there should be a law which would ban people with more than two children from contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
Pawar said that while he was talking with the mother the two-year-old girl, who has twins, said they are expecting one more now.
“Now you tell me.. If such population growth continues then even if Bramhadev (Lord Brahma) comes (to earth) and even you are leading the government, it will be impossible to handle the situation. Everyone should take care of this at their level.. If anyone is doing wrong, we should tell them. Be it a girl or a boy, stop at two children,” Pawar said. He added that there is a law which bars people with more than two children from contesting elections for civic bodies, zilla parishads and taluka panchayats.
“People ask why such a law is not for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs). It is not in our capacity….. but in future if it is in our hands, we would think of a rule banning those who have more than two children from contest elections (for being MP and MLA),” he said.
The two-year-old girl, who was kidnapped on July 26, was a resident of a slum area near Wondercity in Katraj.
Teams of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station and crime branch launched a search for the girl. Using clues obtained from analysis of over 200 CCTVs and information gathered through human intelligence, the police team rescued the girl from Dharashiv and arrested six persons.
On Friday, the police team that investigated this case and the parents of the kidnapped girl were felicitated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, who were in the city for multiple police projects.
