Agitated passengers of the Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen held back the heritage train after the air-conditioning system failed in some coaches. The passengers held back the train for about 40 minutes by pulling the chain and allowed it to leave only after the cooling system was repaired. The train, which has a departure time of 5.10 pm from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai, could leave only at 5.50 pm. The train reached Pune at 8.55 pm-30 minutes late than the scheduled time of 8.25 pm.

“After the passengers boarded the train, they realised that the air conditioning system of C-3 coach wasn’t working. Passengers from some other coaches also complained of the same. When the train started from the station, the passengers pulled the chain and informed station authorities that they won’t let the train leave CST until the AC was functional. The chain was pulled twice. Personnel from the electronics department fixed the glitch following which the train could depart,” said Vasant Sakhre, an occupant. A senior official with the Pune Division confirmed the incident and the subsequent delay.
