A 21-year-old woman, who went missing Tuesday, was found dead at the foot of Lohagad Fort in the Pune district Thursday.
The police have identified the deceased as Manasi Prashant Govindpurkar, a resident of the Sangvi area in Pimpri Chinchwad, and a third-year law student at a college in Pune city. “A prima-facie probe has revealed that the deceased woman died by suicide. She had some issues in her studies. There was no suicide note… We are investigating further,” Kishor Dhumal, Inspector, Lonavala Rural Police Station, said.
According to the police, Govindpurkar left home Tuesday morning to go to college, but did not return. Her family members lodged a missing report at the Sangvi Police Station in Pimpri Chinchwad a day later, they added.
The police launched a search and a probe into her mobile phone calls confirmed her last location at Lohagad Fort. “The probe revealed that she booked a private cab and went to Lohagad Fort. We came to know that she was depressed and had been facing some health problems for the last few months. Further investigation is on,” said Sachin Shirke, Inspector, Sangvi Police Station.
The Pune Rural police team along with the members of the Shivdurga rescue team found Govindpurkar’s body in the dense bushes at the foot of Lohagad Fort. Her body was taken to a hospital for a postmortem examination, and was later handed over to her family members.
As per the legal procedure, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was registered at the Lonavala Rural Police Station.
