The police Saturday registered three First Information Reports after an engineering student’s alleged suicide at a Nalanda engineering college lead to allegations of negligence and violent student protests that saw vehicles set ablaze and property damaged.

While one of those FIRs pertain to probes launched into the student’s death, two are connected with the unrest on campus. According to a police officer, the third FIR, based on CCTV footage at the college and hospital, accuses 30 people — and several unidentified people — for the violence.

The victim, a second-year engineering student from Munger district, allegedly fell from the third floor of her college hostel and was reportedly found injured at around 8:41 pm. She was immediately rushed to the Chandi Referral Hospital but allegedly died on the way.

Soon after, protests erupted on the college campus, with students alleging that the college management had failed to take the student to the hospital in time, police sources said. A police car was damaged while few others were set on fire in the clash that followed.

“The students alleged that the college failed to provide a vehicle to take the victim to the hospital, however management denied these claims saying that they arrived at the scene as soon as they came to know and attempted to take the victim to the hospital, but an ambulance had already arrived,” one source said.

Following this, police registered three FIRs: one victim’s death based on a statement by the victim’s father, the second based on a statement from the college management on the violence and the third based on a statement by the police.
