All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Tuesday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments that the Opposition party is busy “digging Modi’s grave”.
Addressing a public gathering at T Narasipura in Mysuru district of Karnataka on Tuesday, Priyanka said the election is not about Modi or the BJP or Congress or any other leader, but for the people of Karnataka.
She said, “I have seen that BJP leaders come here and speak strange things. I heard that the Prime Minister was saying that the Opposition leaders want to dig his grave. What kind of speech is this? There isn’t anyone in the country who doesn’t want our Prime Minister’s good health and (pray) that he has a long life.”
In a jibe at the Congress, Modi on March 12 while inaugurating the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway had said, “The Congress is dreaming of digging Modi’s grave. They are busy digging Modi’s grave, whereas Modi is busy constructing Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway. They are busy digging Modi’s grave. Modi is busy working for the welfare of the poor.”
On the Amul vs Nandini controversy, Priyanka Tuesday said the government should support Nandini’s products. The Amul-Nandini controversy dates back to December 2022, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah called for “cooperation” between the cooperative-model-based dairy companies, Amul and Nandini, during a public meeting in Mandya.
This led to sharp attacks from Opposition parties who alleged that the BJP government is making efforts to merge Nandini with Amul and that it could have a devastating impact on the Karnataka Milk Federation’s brand.
More recently, things got heated in the state when Amul on April 5 announced its entry into the fresh dairy market in Bengaluru, by introducing fresh milk and curd.
“The BJP government here is creating an artificial scarcity of milk to provide a market to Amul. This is a conspiracy of the government. Nandini products need to be promoted and strengthened,” Priyanka said.
“If the people of Karnataka fail to realise that this election is about them and the future of their children, they will commit a big mistake,” she said.
The T Narasipura assembly constituency, which was once a stronghold of Congress, slipped out of the party’s hands after former minister H C Mahadevappa lost to JD(S) candidate Ashwin Kumar.
