Youth from Rajasthan held for threatening to kill Salman Khan on video

In the early hours on April 14, two bike-borne persons fired a few rounds at Khan's Bandra residence after conducting a recce. Six persons were arrested in the case.

THE MUMBAI crime branch on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old BSc graduate from Rajasthan for allegedly threatening to eliminate actor Salman Khan in a YouTube video. The police said the accused posted a video on his channel ‘Are Chhodo Yaar’ and claimed that five other persons including the Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar is involved in his plan.

According to the police officials, one of the policemen came across the video on Thursday evening following which a case was registered at south cyber police station.

In the video, which is of 1.25 minutes, an unknown person can be heard saying, “Salman Khan has a lot of ego and he thinks that he is Dabang King Khan but we will show him who we are. Many people are present here including Goldy, Nitin, Vivek, Rohit and Jitin and we have a plan in place.”

The person also said they are currently looking for Salman Khan and further narrated his plan to kill him.

After registering a case under sections 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code along with Section 66 (D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 the investigators approached the nodal officers of YouTube and learnt that the channel was registered from an email id lifeblogger34@gmail.com.

“We later got the mobile numbers linked to the email address after which we managed to get the suspect’s location at Bundi district in Rajasthan,” said a police officer.

A team consisting of police inspector Arun Thorat, sub-inspector Jalinder Lembe and constables Vijay Thorat and Sachin Nanaware were sent to the location after which the suspect, identified as Banwarilal Laturlal Gujjar, was detained from a hostel early on Sunday.

The police said Gujjar, who is a Bachelor of Science, has also studied Bachelor of Education and is running a channel on YouTube.

He has a house in Bundi where his parents and a brother live, but he keeps shifting from his house to hostel. “We took him in custody from the hostel and brought him to Mumbai after informing his relatives,” said an officer.

Gujjar was produced before a holiday court on Sunday afternoon, where the investigators seeking his custody said that it is a serious offence, and they have to ascertain whether Gujjar is part of the international group. He has used his mobile phone to post the video.

“We want to understand who all are involved in the plan and what is the motive behind the crime. We will require time to investigate and determine his links,” the police said.

The court then remanded him in police custody till June 18.

While on another instance, Navi Mumbai police had recently arrested five members of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang from Haryana for their alleged involvement in a plot to target the actor.

Khan has been on the radar of the gang after he shot a blackbuck during the shooting of a movie in Rajasthan in 1998 and has since been receiving threats.
