Ghatkopar Youth Congress ward president Sachin Gaikwad (30) was arrested from his residence on Monday for allegedly demanding money from a builder. The arrest came after the builder approached the police claiming Gaikwad had demanded Rs 17 lakh from him.
An officer from the Pant Nagar police station said Gaikwad was arrested after the court rejected his bail plea. Gaikwad has five other cases against him,but was arrested in connection with the extortion case filed by a builder. He applied for bail,which was rejected by the court, said the officer.
He was booked under Sections 383 and 387 of the Indian Penal Code for extortion and threatening. He has been remanded in police custody till September 28. We are investigating the matter and are trying to get more details, the officer added.
