World Economic Forum, Davos: Maharashtra bags investment worth Rs 3.53 lakh cr, says CM

While on the first day of WEF, Maharashtra signed MoUs worth Rs 1.02 lakh crore  with six industries that create 26,000 job opportunities, on January 17, the state signed MoUs worth Rs 2.88 lakh crore with eight industries that will create 1.51 lakh jobs.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Tuesday that Maharashtra has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 3.53 lakh crore at the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, that will create two lakh jobs in the state.

“Maharashtra has signed MoUs worth Rs 3.10 lakh crore in the past two days and MoUs worth Rs 42, 825 crore are going to be signed tomorrow (Thursday). So total MoUs worth Rs 3.53 lakh crore are being signed, which is a record high. Apart from this, various industries have expressed interest in making investment of Rs 1 lakh crore, which includes Arcelor Nippon Mittal as well as industries from Saudi Arabia, Oman,” Shinde informed through social media on Wednesday night.

While on the first day of WEF, Maharashtra signed MoUs worth Rs 1.02 lakh crore  with six industries that create 26,000 job opportunities, on January 17, the state signed MoUs worth Rs 2.88 lakh crore with eight industries that will create 1.51 lakh jobs.

The CM said that MoUs worth Rs 42,825 crore would be signed with six industries on Thursday that will generate 13,000 jobs in Maharashtra.

On the second day of his Davos visit, Shinde met the heads of various industry groups, including Gautam Adani, founder and chairman of Adani Group, at the Maharashtra pavilion and had a detailed discussion on the infrastructure sector in Maharashtra and investment opportunities.

Shinde also met senior industrialist Lakshmi Mittal and discussed future investment cooperation. The CM also met Chief Policy Officer Thomas Coutaudier and Chief Financial Officer Patrick Treuer of Louis Dreyfus, a French trading company.

Addressing the people of the Maharashtra through social media, Shinde said that the state’s focus is to speed up the actual implementation of these MoUs, not just on paper.

Stating that this year, more investment MoUs are being signed than last year’s agreements in Davos, the Chief Minister said that the image of Maharashtra as a people-oriented state with industrialization, skilled manpower and quick decision-making has been realised in the WEF.
