Work on the Nagpur Metro Rail project began here Sunday in MIHAN area in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Surface Transport Minister and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari.
The 4.5-km work, to be executed by Nagarjuna Construction Company, will see one big and two small bridges, a station at the airport and a servicing centre at Khapri near MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) area among other infrastructure components. It will be completed within 15 months, according to Nagpur Metro MD Brijesh Dixit.

Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis said, “The Nagpur Metro, along with projects like IIM and AIIMS, will usher in industrial development in the region. It will be completed in a time-bound manner.” The CM also told the gathering that he had requested Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to set up defence production units in Nagpur as it was centrally located and safe. District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule was also present.
