KASAM Khan, the Kurla resident who filmed officers from Nehru Nagar police station allegedly demanding bribes, leading to several being suspended, has refused to record his statement with the ACB,saying he does not trust the agency.
ACB Friday filed an FIR against 36 constables and asked Khan to record his statement with them. Senior inspector Dhananjay Bagayatkars lack of supervision is being inquired into by DCP,Zone VI,Lakhmi Gautam.
Bagayatkar has not been named in the FIR. We will see if he surfaces in the video, said Rajeshkumar Mor,DIG of ACB.
Khan, however,is still stung by the ACBs alleged refusal to take his complaints seriously.
I had submitted proof of the polices corruption to ACB earlier, but no action was taken. Instead,ACB only forwarded the complaint to BMC. On April 10,ACB officers and personnel from Nehru Nagar police station came to my house at 2.30 am, he said.
I have never heard of policemen coming to record statements at 2.30 in the morning. They are trying to spread fear in Nehru Nagar. At that time,an ACP assured me that he would take action against errant policemen though ADG had said the opposite. How can an ACP overrule a senior officer? And how does an inquiry begin overnight? he said.
ACB rubbished Khans allegations and said it was waiting for him to submit further evidence.
We called him to record his statements, but dont know why he hasnt approached us yet. We will talk to him and take on record what he says. We have also asked him to submit the equipment with which he recorded the video and provide us additional evidence, which we will send to the Kalina Forensic Sciences Laboratory. We will need this to prove breach of Prevention of Corruption Act and arrest the suspended policemen, Rajeshkumar Mor,deputy inspector general,ACB.
Khan said he would only change his stance if a senior officer assured him that strict action will be taken.
