The 26/11 attackers had probably “customised” the dinghy they used to enter Mumbai,a prosecution witness told the special court on Monday.

The 26/11 attackers had probably “customised” the dinghy they used to enter Mumbai,a prosecution witness told the special court on Monday. Otherwise, the witness said,it could not have sustained the weight of ten persons.

The witness,Parshuram Kashinath Meher, had been on the spot when the police confiscated the dinghy found at Cuffe Parade. Meher said the boat had parts fitted in to suit the needs of the attackers. He said a mark of Lahore had been embossed on the vessel, though the parts produced in the court didn’t bear one.

Meher testified against Ajmal Kasab while two other witnesses testified against Fahim Ansari,co-accused in the case. One of them,Jeevan Janardhan Kholapkar (30),said Ansari had approached him in December 2007 for help in renting a house in Fishermen’s Colony. Kholapkar said Ansari identified himself as Sahil Pavaskar from Delhi and offered him Rs 5,000.

“He gave me cash but I didn’t trust him and returned the money,” said Kholapkar, identifying Ansari in court

The other witness to testify against Ansari was Vivek Saxena, manager of a computer institute, who said Ansari had enrolled at his computer institute under the name Sahil Pawaskar. Saxena, examined by special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, also identified Ansari in court.

A fourth witness to depose was Mahendrakumar Gopinath Mohanthy, port officer from Porbandar, who had scanned documents during the registration of M V Kuber. He confirmed he had seen the vessel.
