To strengthen party unity ahead of the upcoming civic and rural body elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray held a marathon meeting of party office-bearers, functionaries, leaders and legislators to draw up the strategy.

After holding a meeting of district heads on Friday afternoon, Uddhav hosted a dinner meeting with party MPs and MLAs at Taj Lands End, where he took stock of the organisational strength and challenges in every district and Assembly constituencies. He instructed party leaders and legislators to prepare for the polls and ensure coordination between urban and rural units.

With the monsoon sessions of Parliament and the Maharashtra Assembly approaching, Uddhav urged his MPs and MLAs to take an aggressive stand against the ruling coalitions at the Centre and in the state. “This is a crucial moment to corner the government on people-centric issues,” he reportedly told them.

In particular, he stressed the importance of holding the state government accountable on matters of governance, infrastructure, and rural distress, areas where the opposition sees an opportunity to reclaim lost ground.

Uddhav instructed all elected representatives to actively participate in party-building exercises and outreach activities in their constituencies, urging them to focus on booth-level planning and youth mobilisation. “The party’s strength lies in its grassroots connect and disciplined organisation,” he said, highlighting the importance of renewed effort following the structural setbacks after the 2022 split in the party.

With speculation rife over potential alliances—including with Raj Thackeray’s MNS—Uddhav kept the focus on organisational strength and self-reliance. “Prepare to contest independently, but remain open to strategic tie-ups,” he is learnt to have told legislators, indicating that a final decision on any pre-poll alliance will be taken after a month-long feedback and review exercise from the grassroots.
