More than two months after Waliv police arrested actor Sheezan Khan for allegedly abetting the suicide of his co-actor Tunisha Sharma, Khan was granted bail by a court in Vasai Saturday. The actor was released on a surety of Rs 1 lakh and was told to surrender his passport to the court as part of the conditions of the bail.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Khan’s lawyer Shailendra Mishra said, “Truth has prevailed as the boy is innocent. We have approached the Bombay High Court for quashing the FIR, which will be heard on March 9 and we hope that we will get justice there as well.”
Tunisha Sharma, 21, who acted with Sheezan Khan in the TV show ‘Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul’, was found dead in the washroom on the show’s set near Vasai on December 24 last year. She was in a relationship with Khan but they had broken up. Khan was arrested the next day and lodged in Thane Central Jail.
In mid-February, the investigators submitted a chargesheet running over 500 pages against Khan in which they charged Khan with abetment to suicide. Mainly relying on the fact that the couple had broken up and Khan had been ignoring Sharma, the police concluded that Sharma was upset and died by suicide.
Mishra said, “The police have misused their power of arrest which is one of the grounds that we have mentioned in our plea at Bombay High Court.”
The court also told Khan that he will have to co-operate during the trial of the case. “We have also been told not to influence any witness,” Mishra added.
