The Central Railway has declared a mega block between Vidyavihar and Thane and between Panvel and Vashi on Sunday due to routine maintenance of tracks and signalling systems before monsoon. At the same time, the Western Railway will be conducting maintenance between Churchgate and Mumbai Central on the same day.
The routine blocks are carried out to maintain the safety and maintenance of the railway infrastructure. But they are likely to have an effect on suburban train operations, such as the cancellation of a number of local train services and delays to some.
The 5th and 6th railway line block between Thane and Vidyavihar will be effective from 8 am to 1.30 pm. This time, many up and down Mail/Express trains will be routed through the fast corridor, sources said. Approximately 15 express trains will be impacted. Consequently, some local train suburban services will be rescheduled, whereas others might be operated delayed by up to 20 minutes.
Between Panvel and Vashi on the Harbour Line, the line will be under block from 11 am to 4 pm. Local trains running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Panvel-Belapur and Thane and Panvel will be cancelled during the block period. Special train services will, however, operate between CSMT and Vashi, Thane and Vashi/Nerul and Belapur/Nerul to Uran to bring partial relief to commuters.
On Western Railway, a block has been declared between Churchgate and Mumbai Central on the slow corridor. The block will remain operational from 10.30 am to 3.35 pm. Up and down slow trains will be routed on to the fast corridor during this time.
Also, certain local trains will reach their final destination at Dadar or Bandra stations, and also leave from these stations for the return trip. Some local services will be cancelled, and others will be running late. Passengers are asked to check train timings beforehand and schedule their travel accordingly so they do not face any inconvenience.
