Thief picks leader’s bag, finds gun and dumps it in a hurry

A visiting corporator from Jalgaon today lost a bag with a revolver, after having kept it in the backseat of his parked car.

A visiting corporator from Jalgaon today lost a bag with a revolver, after having kept it in the backseat of his parked car. Hours later, the bag with the gun and ammunition surfaced near Sterling Cinema, the thief having apparently panicked when he found a weapon rather than the valuables he had been hoping for.

Corporator Avinash Chaudhari arrived in Mumbai in the morning and parked his car near Azad Maidan. He later found the bag had been stolen.

It resurfaced in the evening. “Our control room got a call about an abandoned bag near the Sterling Theatre. We sent a bomb squad and they found a revolver and eight live rounds besides some documents. The documents showed the gun was registered and the bag belonged to Chaudhuri,” said an official with Azad Nagar police.

“It appears the thief who stole the bag thinking it might have valuables panicked at finding the gun and ammunition inside and dumped it as early as he could,” he said.

The police have asked Chaudhari to register a complaint of theft.
