The unseasonal rains which lashed the city and threw the normal life out of gear has also delayed the construction of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro rail corridor. Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd,the special purpose vehicle for the construction of the corridor, has had to reschedule several aspects of the civil construction that are in various stages, including that of station construction and girders transportation.
According to MMOPL,the piling, concreting and girder transport has been affected due to the unpredictable rain. The rain has affected the civil works; nobody had expected that it would rain in November end. We had to reschedule a lot of our construction activities, said K P Maheshwari,Director MMOPL.
He added,We had to reschedule piling work at some places, and we had to postpone the concreting of pile caps.
During the monsoon, the authorities do permit the construction work but with necessary precautions. No heavy activities such as the movement of girders, work on pier caps were permitted during days when heavy rain was predicted.
Maheshwari added the slab work of station was hit due to the rain. It rained two-three days ago. We had to postpone the slab work of stations.
Meanwhile,at Versova the casting of an in-situ U-girder had to be postponed. It requires 700 cubic meters of concrete to be poured for the U-girder and it take 14 to 15 hours to pour that quantity. So we cant take a chance of starting the work with this unpredictable weather. The overall progress has been affected, Maheshwari added.
