Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena Thursday submitted a memorandum to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti demanding strict action against Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut for allegedly making provocative statements.
The Shiv Sena delegation that met Bharti alleged that Raut, by circulating a video of recent violence in Nepal and warning that similar unrest could occur in India, attempted to incite disorder and indirectly threaten Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the delegation, such remarks are not only inflammatory but also intended to create fear and instability in society.
The memorandum further stated that Raut has repeatedly sought to undermine democratic institutions – including the Election Commission, the judiciary, the administration, and the media – by spreading distrust. Shiv Sena leaders claimed that since Raut cannot succeed through democratic means, he is resorting to provocative speeches that could spark violence.
The delegation urged the police to take immediate cognizance of the matter and initiate strict legal action against Raut to prevent any attempts at disturbing public peace.
The delegation comprised Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora, party secretary Sanjay More, MLA Tukaram Kate, spokespersons Sanjay Nirupam and Sheetal Mhatre, Prof Jyoti Waghmare, Sanjana Ghadi, former corporator Sushiben Shah, Trushna Viswasrao, Suvarna Karanje, and Asha Mamedy.
