Former MLA Shishir Shinde, who resigned from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and is likely to join Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s party, has said that four years of his public life was wasted after joining the Uddhav Sena.
Shishir Shinde’s resignation came a day before the 57th foundation day of the Shiv Sena and the mega plenary event of the Sena UBT on Sunday.
While resigning from the party, Shinde said in his letter to Uddhav Thackeray he was given the post of deputy leader in the Sena UBT just for name’s sake.
“On June 19, 2018, I joined the Shiv Sena party very cordially. After that, I did not get any responsibility until June 30, 2022. Every political party worker has some identity and certain qualities. But I regret that during these four years, my achievements, organisational skills, tremendous determination to complete the task at hand, and intimate connections in various sectors of society were neglected. I feel that four precious years of my life were wasted,” Shinde said in the letter dated June 17.
In also said his letter that he was given an ornamental position without any responsibility in the party.
“On June 30, 2022, I was suddenly appointed as “Shiv Sena Deputy Leader” and got an ornamental post with no responsibility. I am resigning from the post of deputy leader of the Shiv Sena and the party from today. However, I am decidedly proud to state that the Shiv Sena has not been brought into disrepute or disrepute by any act of mine. In the last six months, it became impossible to even meet you. It does not appeal to my sensitive mind to be unwanted by anyone. I stop my intrusion. Without making any public accusations through this letter, I ‘Jai Maharashtra’ (goodbye) to you.”
One of the old-time Shiv Sainiks, Shishir Shinde’s name had come into the limelight in October 1991 when he along with other Sena workers had dug up the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai ahead of the India-Pakistan match.
This came after Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had announced that he and his party would not allow the match to take place. Just two days before the match, Shinde along with some other party workers had dug up the pitch of the Wankhede Stadium.
The very next year, in 1992, Shinde had contested the BMC corporators’ elections from Mulund and won with a heavy margin.
Considered to be close to Raj Thackeray, Shishir Shinde had quit the Sena along with him in 2005 and joined his Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in 2006. Shinde had contested the 2009 Assembly polls from the Bhandup constituency on an MNS ticket and won.
In 2014, he lost to the Shiv Sena candidate and returned to his former party in 2018.
