Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant claimed Wednesday that several elected representatives of the Shiv Sena (UBT) are in touch with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and would soon join their party.

While responding to the question of an alleged attempt by Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to poach MPs from the Sharad Pawar-led party, Samant said, “I don’t know about NCP (SP) MPs joining the NCP. But I had said this earlier too… Just after the poll results were declared several public representatives of the Sena (UBT) were in touch with Shinde ji. Soon, you will witness that those public representatives of Sena UBT will be in the Shiv Sena”.

“A decision about it will be taken by Shinde ji,” he said.

Samant said if any Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders want to join the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, the Shiv Sena will welcome it.

A source in the Shinde-led party said that since the drubbing in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held last year, several MLAs and MPs of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party are unhappy and have contacted the Sena leadership about the possibility of joining Sena.

The Eknath Shinde-led Sena won seven Lok Sabha seats to become the third largest ally in the NDA. If it manages to poach more MPs from the Sena (UBT), the party will further strengthen its position in the NDA on the national level and weaken the Sena UBT’s position in the Opposition INDIA bloc.

Currently, the Sena (UBT) has 10 Lok Sabha MPs.
