The combination of Vivek Salvi,Samson Sand, and Paramjit Singh enabled the Bandra YMCA to beat the Mumbai Police side 56-53 in the men’s group A tie in the Mastan YMCA Basketball Tournament,at Nagpada on Monday.
In a women’s quarterfinals match,Fr Agnels beat Thane’s Agradneya Vyayamshala 38-37 to reach the semifinals.
Maharashtra State Police were at their very best as they thrashed Fr Agnels 101-67 in group D of the mens section.
This was the first time this season that a team has notched up a century mark. With Nilesh Raut,Yuvraj Shembole and Manoj Choudhari in full flow, their rivals just could not contain them. The trio not only were aggressive and fast and scored constantly, they were equally effective under the defensive board as they time and again baulked Fr Agnels attackers,Titus and Rahul in particular.
They led 46-28 at the half way stage, but in the second half, they were more incisive and added 53 points to dampen any hope Fr Agnels had to match them. Chembur Gymkhana impressed while beating Wellingdon YMCA 71-51.
