The fifth accused arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with the firing incident at actor Salman Khan’s residence, Mohammad Chaudhary, has told the police that apart from sending a video recording of Khan’s Bandra bungalow, he had sent videos of two more Mumbai-based actors to gangster Anmol Bishnoi, brother of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and is suspected to be holed up in US or Canada.

Soon after the firing outside the actor’s residence on April 14, Anmol had put up a Facebook post claiming responsibility for the attack.

Police are verifying the claims made by the accused and have sought for a technical investigation of his mobile phone to retrieve some videos that have been deleted. Chaudhary, who was arrested from Kurla on Tuesday, told police that he had conducted a recce of the houses of two other actors between April 8 and 12 when he took a video of Salman Khan’s residence as well. He then sent the video to Anmol to give him an understanding of the location of the building where two persons were to open fire.

A senior officer told The Indian Express, “During interrogation, Chaudhary told us that he was asked to take videos of the residence of Salman Khan and two other actors residing in suburban Mumbai. All data have been deleted from his mobile phone and we have sought for help to retrieve them… it may help substantiate his claims.”

Four persons arrested earlier, including one who allegedly died by suicide in police lock-up, were not linked to the gang directly for a major period but Chaudhary, as per police, was associated with the gang for more than five-six years. As per police, Chaudhary was in direct touch with Anmol Bishnoi and Rohit Godara and spoke to them on video calls.

“We are hoping that the interrogation of Chaudhary will give us more clarity on Bishnoi gang and how active they are in the city,” the officer said.

The officer said that tracking down Choudhary was difficult as all they knew from the interrogation of Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta — the two alleged shooters arrested earlier in the case — was that they met one person in Mumbai who guided them.

A team led by sub-inspector Ramdas Kadam questioned them and found that they met the person in Kurla. Based on the description of the area, police zeroed in on Chaudhary and arrested him,  making it the fifth arrest in the case.
