Actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times by an intruder at his Mumbai residence in the early hours of Thursday morning. The 54-year-old actor suffered six injuries on his arms, spine and neck and was rushed to the hospital where he is undergoing treatment. The incident occurred at around 2:00 am and the actor’s family has released a statement calling it a “burglary attempt”. Khan underwent a surgery for his injuries and is currently “out of danger”, doctors have said.

Here are 10 points on Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing incident:

1. The intruder who attacked Saif Ali Khan first entered the bedroom of the actor’s younger son Jeh, 4, who was sleeping at the family’s West Bandra residence, police said. He allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore from the house help and attacked her as well with the blade. She then raised an alarm, alerting other helps and the family. Another help also suffered minor injuries.

2. The intruder had been locked in one of the rooms but he managed to flee, the police said. In CCTV footage, captured at 2.33 am, shows the suspect descending down the stairs of the building. He was wearing a brown t-shirt and a ‘gamchha‘. A senior police officer said that they suspect the accused may have used the building shaft to enter the building.

3. The security wall for the second entrance to the building ‘Satguru Sharan’ is not high and a net installed there has a tear. Police suspect the accused entered the building scaling the wall. The police also suspect it may be the job of an insider who was aware that the net was torn.

4. Khan rushed to Lilavati hospital at 3:00 am with his son Taimur Ali Khan along with their caretaker. Two of his wounds were deep and one was close to his spine. Doctors also found a piece of the knife’s blade lodged close to the spine. The actor is out of surgery and is recovering.

5. Khan’s wife actor Kareena Kapoor Khan and their two sons – Taimur Ali Khan, 8, and Jeh Ali Khan, 3, were at the house when the incident occurred. Khan was reportedly trying to protect his family from the intruder and got injured during the scuffle.

6. In a statement to media, Kareena Kapoor said the family was “doing fine”. The statement read: “We request media and fans to be patient and not speculate any further as the Police is already doing their due investigations. Thank you all for your concern.”

7. The Opposition in Maharashtra reacted to the incident, questioning the law and order in the state. “The CM (Devendra Fadnavis) also handles the home portfolio. Such incidents should be taken seriously,” NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar said.

8. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut also expressed concern over the incident. “The law and order in the state has gone for a toss. Saif is a big actor who has been awarded Padma Shri…No one is safe in the state,” he said.

9. Many celebrities and colleagues from the film industry, including actors Pooja Bhatt, NTR Jr., and director Kunal Kohli, have expressed their anger and concern over the incident. Saif Ali Khan’s daughter actor Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan were seen visiting the actor at the hospital.

10. After attacking Khan, the robber escaped without stealing anything, police said.The accused is on the run and police are trying to track him down. They are also questioning the three house helps who were present at the actor’s house. An FIR has been filed in the case.
