Saif Ali Khan stabbed: The intruder who attacked Saif Ali Khan on Thursday at his Bandra home also demanded Rs 1 crore from the Bollywood actor’s househelp, police sources said after preliminary investigations.
In her statement to the police, househelp Eliyamma Philip alias Lima, 56, who has worked with the Khans for the past four years as a kid’s nurse, said the intruder first entered Khan’s bedroom, where the actor’s younger son Jeh, 4, was sleeping. He was holding a blade. When she asked what he wanted, he first demanded Rs 1 crore from her. When she tried to resist, he slashed her right wrist with the blade, the police sources said.
Lima then screamed for help, which woke up the other nanny, Junu, who raised an alarm and alerted Khan and Kareena, the police sources said. Khan rushed to the crime scene and while trying to protect other family members, he had a scuffle with the intruder. He attacked Khan with the blade multiple times, causing serious injuries.
The commotion alerted other staff members who rushed to the Khan family’s aid. One of them, Geeta, also sustained minor cuts, according to the police complaint.
Although the intruder demanded Rs 1 crore, a senior IPS officer said it was not an extortion bid but a robbery plan that went wrong. “It’s a theft-attempt case,” the officer said.
The Bandra police have registered an FIR invoking non-bailable charges against the robber, formed 15 teams and are searching for him.
DCP Dixit Gedam said the charges are under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 311 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 312 (attempt to commit robbery or dacoity when armed with a deadly weapon), 331(4) (house trespass or housebreaking in order to commit any offence), 331(6) (committing lurking house-trespass or housebreaking after sunset and before sunrise, and making preparation for causing hurt to any person or for assaulting any person) and 331(7) (committing lurking house-trespass or housebreaking, causing grievous hurt to any person, or attempting to cause death or grievous hurt to any person).
The police have said that after attacking Khan, the intruder escaped in panic and did not steal anything. No valuables have been reported missing from the house.
Lima’s statement was recorded at the police station and she was allowed to leave.
