Retired ASI arrested for clearing passport application submitted on forged documents

The police in Dahisar have arrested a retired assistant sub inspector, Sanjay Jagtap, in connection with a case where he allegedly cleared a passport application applied on forged documents while he was posted in Dahisar in 2023. The police had earlier arrested three accused namely Satish Dhakane, Nilesh Tiwari and Pankaj Kumar Singh in the case and once Jagtap retired on October 31, the police arrested him too on November 5. After two days in the police custody, he was sent to judicial custody on November 7.

According to the police, a notorious accused, Rajedra alias Rajender alias Jinder Guru Vachansingh, who had multiple narcotics cases registered against him in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, and was convicted in one of the cases. But based on the medical ground, he came out in 2023 and shifted to Mumbai. He was staying in Dahisar along with his wife Baljit Kaur and seven-year-old daughter on a rented accommodation.

Vachansingh, with the help of Dhakane, Tiwari and Singh, procured forged documents like Aadhar card and necessary papers. He applied for a passport for himself, wife and daughter based on the forged documents in 2023. Jagtap was posted in Dahisar as head constable and deployed in the passport verification branch. Jagtap cleared the papers and forwarded the application without proper verification. The forged papers were shown as made in 2021 and interestingly, Vachansingh was in the Punjab jail in the same period, said a police officer.

During interrogation, the police learnt that Vachansingh came into narcotics business again and was supplying contraband from foreign country. During further probe, the Haryana police found that Vachansingh procured a passport from Mumbai. The Haryana police came to Mumbai and once the fact came out, the Dahisar police registered a case against four persons including Jagtap in March this year under Section 420 (cheating), 465, 467, 468, 471, 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 12 of the Passport Act, 1967, said police officer.
