The Thane police are on the lookout for a security guard, his wife and two others who broke into an apartment of a housing society in Kalyan and fled with gold and cash worth Rs 35.8 lakh.
An officer from Thane police said the incident took place Friday night when family members of an apartment in the Chikan Ghar area of Kalyan had gone to play Garba.
At this point, a security guard, Gagan Bahadur (48), his wife Suman (46) and two unidentified persons, broke into the flat. When the family returned home, they found that gold jewellery and cash worth a total of Rs 35.88 lakh was missing, following which they approached the local police.
The police registered an FIR under Sections 457 (house break-in), 380 (theft) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Upon going through the CCTV footage, the police found that Bahadur, the security guard of the society, his wife and two others were seen entering the building.
“The alleged accused climbed to the first floor of the building using a ladder and entered the flat through the bathroom window,” the official said. “The accused broke open the locker in the bedroom with a screwdriver and cutter and stole the valuables,” he added.
“The accused were aware that the first floor residents kept gold and cash in their house and attended Garba daily. Based on this, they planned the crime. We have some leads on their locations and should be able to arrest them soon,” an officer linked to the case said.
