As part of its inquiry intto the controversial ‘joke’ made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on comedian Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’, Mumbai police on Tuesday questioned popular content creator Ashish Chanchlani and recorded his statement.
Chanchlani was present at the Khar police station along with his lawyer. Police questioned him for over 30 minutes during which he shared details of the show. He co-operated in the probe and may be called again if needed, a police officer said.
Chanchlani is among the five artistes Mumbai police summoned on Tuesday. They include Allahbadia, Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Chanchlani and Jaspreet Singh. Raina is the organiser and host of the show.
The show was shot on November 14, 2024 in a Khar studio and later premiered on YouTube. But some of the clips of the show were uploaded on Instagram on Sunday and it went viral sparking nationwide controversy.
All five artistes have responded to the summons served by the police.
Allahbadia’s PA assured the police that soon the podcatser would present himself before the police and co-operate in the inquiry, an officer said.
Police also plan to contact BookMyShow seeking details of who all bought tickets of the show and attended it as audience. Police will try to identify if anyone from the audience, especially any woman, felt insulted, discomforted or felt her modesty was outraged when the alleged ‘obscene and vulgar’ jokes were cracked during the show, an officer said.
