Police registered an FIR on Saturday against a BJP leader on a complaint by the wife of a public servant, alleging that he demanded sexual favours from her, following which party workers carried out a protest in Dombivli on Sunday.

The FIR was registered against BJP Dombivli (east) city president Nandu Joshi at Manpada police station, after which BJP workers alleged that it was to malign the name of the national party. Joshi denied any wrongdoing and said that the woman filed a complaint against him as she thinks he supported her estranged husband.

According to police, the woman stated in the complaint that Joshi demanded sexual favours to help her with not vacating her flat. Joshi was the friend of her husband, who was facing a case of dowry harassment from her. She alleged that the accused, realising that she needed help in connection with the flat, demanded sexual favours in return.

Joshi told police that the woman suspects that he was working at the behest of her husband and hence gave a complaint against him. Talking to the media, Joshi said he had not interacted with the woman for the past decade and there was no truth in the allegations.

Police said further investigation is on and no arrest has been made in the case yet.
