Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi president Prakash Ambedkar on Monday gave a week’s ultimatum to Congress to decide whether it would consider VBA for grand alliance in Maharashtra or not for the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Speaking to media in Mumbai, Ambedkar said, “The VBA had written a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on September 1. But till date we have not received any response from the party.”
According to Ambedkar, “VBA spokesperson Priyadarshi Telang had emailed a letter to Kharge on September 1. In the letter, the VBA informed about not receiving an invite for INDIA meet held in Mumbai. Secondly, VBA also informed it was open minded for alliance with Congress.”
VBA is not going to wait forever. If Congress does not respond within a week, we will go ahead with preparations for all 48 Lok Sabha seats, he said.
The grandson of B R Ambedkar said, “The Congress and NCP are non-committal about VBA. And that makes it hard to move forward.” The VBA has an alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT). And that will remain intact, he said.
But Shiv Sena (UBT) has to sort out the details about seat-sharing etc with Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction). Unless that is resolved, the Maha Vikas Aghadi front remains a question mark, he observed.
The problem is that in the past one-and-a-half years, there is not a single meeting between Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP. First, the three will have to resolve the alliance issues and seat-sharing, he added.
Ambedkar said, “VBA is all prepared to go alone if Congress-NCP does not take it along. We will start our state tour soon,” he said.
