Ahead of PM Modi rally, parking banned on 14 Mumbai roads today, traffic diversions likely

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in a massive rally in Shivaji Park organised by BJP’s alliance unit Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Friday, Mumbai traffic police have been parking on 14 roads in the area as it is anticipated that several VVIPs will be travelling for the event. If the need arises, traffic will be diverted along both directions of S V S Road to alternate routes.

Ahead of Modi’s scheduled participation in the -led rally of NDA, over 40,000 people are expected to attend the event. Mumbai police claim to have made adequate security arrangements and traffic police have also chalked out a plan to ensure that the city’s traffic is not adversely impacted, police sources said.

Traffic police on Thursday issued an advisory and said that besides the PM, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit pawar and Devendra Fadnavis as well as other ministers and VVIPs are likely to participate in the MNS’s ‘Jahir Sabha’ (public meeting) in Shivaji Park.

With a large number of supporters expected to descend at Shivaji Park, a high number of vehicles are likely to be present along the Western and Eastern Express highways. Traffic congestion is likely, especially on roads leading to the venue.

To avoid this congestion, traffic arrangements will be set in place from 10am to midnight on May 17.

Likely diversions and alternate routes

Traffic on the northbound stretch of S V S Road (From Siddhivinayak Junction to Yes Bank Junction) will be regulated and may be diverted along an alternate route (from Siddhivinayak Junction) to S K Bole Road-Agar Bazar-Portuguese Church or S K Bole Road.

For the south bound stretch of SV S Road, traffic will be diverted along Dandekar Chowk to Pandurang Naik Marg, then Raja Badhe Chowk with a right turn to L J Road to Gokhale road or N C Kelkar Road.

Advisory for those participating in the rally

Vehicles coming from the western and Northerm suburbs through Western Express highway will drop off participants on Senapati Bapat Road between Mahim Railway station to Ruparel College area and proceed to the parking at Mahim Reti Bunder, Kohinoor PPL Parking, India Bulls Finance center PPL parking, Kamagar Stadium and on Senapati Bapat Road. Light motor vehicles can be park at IndiaBulls One Center PPL parking.

Vehicles coming from Thane and Navi-Mumbai via the Eastern Express highway will drop off attendees near Dadar T T Circle and proceed to the parking towards Five Gardens, Matunga and R A K four Roads.

Vehicles coming from South Mumbai via Veer Savarkar Road will drop off participants at Ravindranath Natya Mandir and proceed for parking at India Bulls Finance Center PPL parking, Raheja PPL Parking, Sudam Kalu Ahire road, Worli, Padurang Budhkar Marg Glaxo Junction upto Kume Chowk, Sudam Kalu Ahire Road, Worli, Narayan Hardikar Marg. Vehicles coming via B A Road will drop off participants at Dadar T T Circle and proceed for parking at the designated parking place at Five Garden or R AK four Road.

Traffic authorities on Thursday issued an advisory that a large number of people are expected to gather at Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s rally organised at MMRDA Ground (Firecracker Ground) in Bandra Kurla Complex. “Therefore to avoid traffic congestion on Marine Drive, Eastern Expressway and Western Expressway, on 17th May 2024 from 10 am to midnight, necessary traffic arrangements have been planned,” said an official. “So, passengers planning to travel by air or rail should plan their journey alternately and avoid inconvenience to reach their destinations on time,” the official added.
