Pilot on long drive hits cops,arrested

Jet Airways pilot Khushagrah Piyush Kumar (24) of Nerul was arrested for rash and negligent driving after his car hit a police bike on Savarkar Marg at 2 am

Jet Airways pilot Khushagrah Piyush Kumar (24) of Nerul was arrested for rash and negligent driving after his car hit a police bike on Savarkar Marg at 2 am Wednesday,injuring sub-inspector Vitthal Karamwadkar and a constable.

The cops on patrol were crossing the road towards Mahim when Kumar hit them. The pilot fled leaving the policemen unconscious on the road for over 40 minutes till another patrol arrived at 2.50 am and rushed them to Hinduja Hospital.

Shivaji Park police later found pieces of number plate of Kumar’s car at the spot.

“We worked on the number plate like a jigsaw puzzle and fixed it. We tracked the car owner from the number,MH 06 AN 6173,” said PB Kakad,senior inspector.

However,when police reached Kumar’s residence,they found that he had flown out of the country. The car was found a few metres away with its radiator damaged.

“Thursday morning as soon as he landed,he came to the police station with his parents and we arrested him,” Kakad said.

Kumar told police he was on a long drive from Nerul to Colaba through Eastern Freeway. “After dinner Kumar was returning home and decided to drive through the city. He lost control and crashed into the motorcycle.”
