Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday said that NCP president Sharad Pawar’s stand on the Congress’ demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani Group won’t affect Opposition unity.

Raut said that Pawar might have distanced himself from the Congress’ demand but that doesn’t mean the NCP chief had given a clean chit to the Adani Group, adding that the country’s economy won’t be strong if industrialists are not allowed to grow.

“Industries should grow in this country, industrialists should survive in this country. Many industrialists like the Tatas, Birla and Bajaj have built the country. The country’s economy will not be strong without industrialists. Everyone’s position is that the economy will not get a boost without them,” Raut said.

“Although Pawar has taken a different stand on Adani, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will not face any cracks in Maharashtra. Money in LIC and SBI is public money. It came to light how the BJP put it in the pocket of industrialists who are close to them,” he said further.

“Pawar’s stand is known from the beginning, there is nothing new in it. Parliament did not function in the Budget Session. Adani was not the only issue in the country, inflation and unemployment among others were also issues. Pawar has also spoken on the option of a judicial inquiry in a time-bound manner. Be it the NCP or TMC, they have different views on Adani. That doesn’t mean there are cracks in the Opposition, in Maharashtra or at the national level. The guilty must be booked in any way that works. Our demand for a JPC is still there,” Raut said.

Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray too said Pawar’s views on the Adani Group won’t affect Opposition unity.

Pawar said on Friday that he believed the Adani Group is being “targeted” by unknown entities whose motives he questioned. In an interview on Friday to NDTV, a news channel in which the Gautam Adani-led Adani Group is the majority shareholder, Pawar distanced himself from the Congress’ demand for a JPC probe into the report by short-selling firm Hindenburg and said he did not agree with stalling of Parliament by the Congress-led Opposition on the matter.
