The seven-member panel constituted to investigate the Kalbadevi collapse have formed three sub-committees for a deeper analysis. The sub-committees will look into the cause of fire, the fire brigade response, disaster management department and dissemination of information. The panel is also investigating the state of equipment and its utility especially after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The panel had its first meeting on Monday.
BMC has called for reports from the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA), the police and the fire brigade. They will seek CCTV footage from the traffic department to investigate vehicle congestion and delay in response. The fire brigade reached the spot 13 minutes after the call, when the standard response is fixed at four minutes.

BMC also said that officials will be booked if they find there was inadequate response on their part. P S Rahangdale, acting chief fire officer, said, “We will take three days to investigate the incident.” The main priority is to probe the presence of the senior officials near the structure even after people were rescued. A senior civic official said, “The leader of the force should ideally have analysed the situation and not taken such bold steps himself. The loss of four senior officials is huge for the department.”
