The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has completed the construction of 1,700 of the 3,000 flats it hopes to put up for sale by year end.
Officials said being there was no haste in selling forms for sale of these flats. On Thursday,Mumbai board members belonging to Congress had announced that the forms would be available in two months. Dismissing any such plans,a senior MHADA official said,With the state Assembly elections round the corner, moving ahead for the sale of flats in August is just a pre-election populist ploy. We are still in the process of allotting the 3,863 flats. The official added that the next lot of flats could not be released in the market unless the allotment of the existing flats is complete. It is not feasible to release the next lot before December this year.
A major chunk, about 1,300 flats,of the 1,700 flats that are ready for possession or are nearing completion are located in Malvani in Malad. Available at Rs 6.14 lakh, these 180 sq ft homes are meant for the weaker sections. Another 62 flats would be available for the low-income group,84 flats for the middle-income group and 207 for the high-income group at Pratiksha Nagar in Sion. These flats would have a carpet area of 320 sq ft,437 sq ft and 570 sq ft respectively.
About 47 commercial tenements in the price range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh will also be available at Sion and Chembur.
