Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday criticised the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena’s proposed protest march to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on July 1.

“You looted Mumbai for 15 years and now when we are asking you for an explanation you want to hold a protest. You should protest outside your own house,” Shinde said at an event to welcome Sena (UBT) corporator Sanjay Agaldare from Khar danda along with several party workers to the Shiv Sena.

Uddhav Thackeray recently announced that his party will march to the BMC headquarters in South Mumbai on July 1 to protest against issues of fund irregularities, corruption and looting which the party claims to be happening at the civic body.

“Despite being in power in the BMC for 15 years, the opposition continued to watch Mumbai suffer every year due to sub-standard infrastructure. And these people want to question our work. We have taken a decision to make Mumbai pothole free, started health clinics, beautification projects and infrastructure projects have been expedited,” said Shinde.

Adding that the speed with which the Shiv Sena- BJP government is working in the state for the last 11 months has made the opposition worried about its future, the CM said, “Since our government came to power, we have taken several decisions for the welfare of the public and in a short span of time we have expedited developmental works that had come to a halt under the previous government. Those who ruled the BMC for 15 years didn’t do anything for the city.”

Over the last few months, a number of corporators from Mumbai have joined the Shiv Sena. “The Shiv Sena- BJP government has taken several revolutionary decisions to improve the life of Mumbaikars in just 11 months. The opposition is scared thinking about the work we will do in the one-and-a-half years ahead of us. Mumbaikars trust us and so corporators continue to join us,” said Shinde.
