Opposition leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Thursday demanded an independent probe into allegations made by Deputy Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amruta Fadnavis, who had got an FIR lodged claiming that a “designer” tried to bribe her with Rs 1 crore while seeking her “intervention” in a criminal case.
State Congress president Nana Patole questioned how people will be safe in the state if the home minister (Fadnavis) himself is not safe. “Deputy CM Fadnavis himself said in the House (state Assembly) that there was an attempt to blackmail his wife. A woman has been arrested in this case. The matter is serious and should be investigated thoroughly and the truth should be revealed,” Patole said.
He went on to ask, “But if the home minister himself is not safe, how will the people of the state be safe?”
“Fadnavis and the family (of the accused) have relations ever since Fadnavis became the chief minister. Fadnavis himself is saying that his family and the family of those who have been accused of blackmailing them were related even when he was in power and also when he was not in power. He alleges that some political leaders and police officers are also behind this,” Patole said.
“Fadnavis is the home minister of the state… he has the police system under him, he should investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the facts before the public,” he added.
Demanding an investigation by an independent agency, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi told The Indian Express, “Since the complainants and the home minister are from the same family, there is a conflict of interest and hence, the case should be probed by an independent agency.”
Further, in a series of tweets, Chaturvedi said: “A criminal’s daughter gains access to de facto CM’s house (Fadnavis) & is friends with his wife for over 5 years (as per DCM statement in Assembly). Gives his wife jewellery, clothes to wear (for promotion). Roams around with her in her car. The designer friend also tells her how they can make money through reporting bookies, raiding them & settling the same to earn money. Despite that their friendship continues. Now there are allegations of videos & blackmail. What is happening in Maharashtra Shri @narendramodi ji? Now on the floor of the house DCM says this is a political conspiracy! Who is police reporting to in the state? Home Minister. Who is the Home Minister? Devendra (Fadnavis). Who is the party that has complained? Amruta. Shouldn’t an independent investigation be undertaken in this case?”\
“This statement of the home minister claiming the videos are manipulated in his own family’s issue is incorrect and unethical. If this was an Opposition leader the same DCM would have been screaming corruption, wrongdoing, media outraging, ED jumping, CBI entering, SIT constituting!,’ she added.
The Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, NCP’s Ajit Pawar, demanded details of the lawsuit in the Assembly, to which Fadnavis alleged the matter was an attempt to trap him and his family.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, Amruta spat on Twitter
Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Thursday entered into a spat with Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Twitter over the FIR lodged against a designer alleged to have made an attempt to frame her family.
Chaturvedi in her tweet expressed surprise over how a “criminal’s daughter” gained access to Fadnavis’ house and remained friends with Amruta Fadnavis for five years.
Amruta Fadnavis retorted by saying that if such a person had approached Chaturvedi, she would have helped her.
Questioning why a demand for an independent investigation rattled Amruta Fadnavis, Chaturvedi said she should have reported the woman the day she approached her.
Amruta Fadnavis replied saying that she herself is demanding an independent investigation in the matter. During the interaction while Amruta Fadnavis called Chaturvedi “chatur”, and the latter rebuffed with “Fad-noise”. —ENS
