Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday inaugurated two new corridors for signal-free travel between Mumbai and Thane.
The two roads have been constructed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). While one corridor connects Mankhurd flyover and Chheda Nagar Junction in Ghatkopar to Thane on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), the other is an elevated corridor from Kapadia Nagar to Vakola junction – an extension of the Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR).
The 1.23-km long flyover from Mankhurd to Thane will provide signal-free travel to commuters.
After the completion of SCLR and East Freeway projects, heavy traffic was being witnessed at Chheda Nagar Junction in Ghatkopar. To reduce this, MMRDA had undertaken the Chheda Nagar Junction Improvement Project. Under it, three flyovers and one subway are being constructed. The 1.23-km long flyover from Mankhurd to Thane is one of the three flyovers under this project. Meanwhile, the extension of SCLR, comprising the elevated corridor from Kurla to Vakola will facilitate faster connectivity between eastern and western express highways, said MMRDA officials.
MMRDA Commissioner S V R Srinivas said, “The MMRDA is aggressively completing and launching projects to provide world class infrastructure to the people of MMR.”
