In the smorgasbord of fashion weeks in the country,heres another addition. The first India Resort Fashion Week (IRFW) 2011 is set to take place from December 7-10 at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Goa. For a country that now sees back-to-back fashion events during high season,a fashion week dedicated to resort fashion,a very nascent category here,only adds to the repetitive boredom the industry seems to be serving.
The four-day event will see 22 designers participating. Names synonymous with resort wear such as Shantanu and Nikhil,James Ferreira,Shivan and Narresh,Pria Kataria Puri and Anupamaa Dayal are part of the line-up.
Fashion fatigue doesnt bother them. As designer Shantanu Mehra of the label Shantanu-Nikhil puts it,Resort wear is an escalating segment in our fashion industry and is already an extremely prominent segment abroad. It is just about the correct time for India to also have a fashion week which is devoted to resort wear.
Resort wear is not just about swimwear; its like lounge wear thats also luxurious. Many designers of resort wear were keen to highlight that, says Shalini Chuganee,COO,IRFW. A rivulet imitating the ocean,is what wed say.
