After deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar,it was the turn of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to vent his ire on journalists. He told a public function in Latur on Friday that mediapersons only discussed things and later ‘emptied glasses’ (of liquor) without doing anything practical.

He was speaking at the release of book Hirkanicha Birhad (The House of Hirkani,a legendary figure in Shivaji’s time, known for her adventures for her child),written by Sunita Arlikar.

“They just discuss national problems on TV channels… they even brand the prime minister a weak person,” he said. “They don’t know how much one has to struggle in politics… They sit on the banks (of river) and talk about the depth of water without plunging into it.”

He said journalists deliberated on all kinds of issues during the day and emptied glasses (of alcohol) in the evening without doing anything practical to solve them. “Politics and social service can’t be separated… Politics is a system through which social service can be done, but people just discuss things without doing anything.”

He said people who criticised politicians on TV should join politics and attempt to solve the problems they discussed everyday.
