The sudden illness and the subsequent hospital stay of 27-year-old beautician Nooriya Haveliwala, accused of mowing down two persons and injuring four constables, have irked the police.
On February 10,she had complained of stomach pain and ever since, she has been admitted to JJ Hospital. Last week, when we (police) approached the court seeking her custody under the NDPS Act,it was rejected on grounds that she was ill; custody could be granted only after her recovery, said a senior officer.
Haveliwala had moved a bail application on February 8. The Sessions Court had adjourned the matter till February 23.
She has been booked for culpable homicide and under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. I have met her (Nooriya) in hospital; her condition is still bad. We are waiting to secure her bail, said advocate Renuka Laxmeshwar. Special public prosecutor RV Kini said,We had told the court that she could try to intimidate witnesses if she is granted bail. We are waiting for her health report.
Haveliwala was arrested on January 30 for driving vehicle under the influence of alcohol and ramming into a biker and a police team. Biker Afzal Ibrahim and police sub inspector Dinanath Shinde lost their lives while four constables were injured in the accident.
