A man tied his wife’s body to his bike after she was killed in a road accident, as his cries for help were allegedly ignored by passersby on the Nagpur-Jabalpur National Highway Sunday.

Gyarshi, 35, was travelling with her husband, Amit Yadav, 36, on their motorcycle, from Lonara in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district to their native village in Madhya Pradesh for Raksha Bandhan. The accident happened near Deolapar between 2.30 and 3 pm, when a speeding truck allegedly hit their bike, and Gyarshi died on the spot.

Amid heavy rain and busy traffic, Amit reportedly tried to stop passing vehicles for help, but no one stopped. Finally, he tied his wife’s body to the back of his motorcycle and started riding back to his house, a video of which has gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the police received information about the accident on the highway. However, when they arrived at the scene, they could not find Amit or the vehicle. As Amit proceeded with his wife’s corpse, the police at the Khumari toll plaza attempted to stop him, but he did not pull over.

Then the highway police, along with Nagpur rural and Nagpur city police, set up a roadblock and stopped Amit. He told police that he and his wife, Gyarshi Amit Yadav, were on their way to her home in Karanpur in Madhya Pradesh when the accident happened. He said he tied his wife’s body to his motorcycle and began riding towards their home in Lonara because of the rain and the lack of assistance from passersby.

The Nagpur police said they sent Gyarshi’s body for a post-mortem examination, and will file a case once the autopsy report is received.
