Addressing the first joint press conference of the Maha Vikas Aghadi after the victory of the alliance in Maharashtra in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray Saturday said the victory in the Lok Sabha was just the beginning and not an end and asserted that MVA will contest the upcoming Assembly polls together and will win.
The Assembly polls in Maharashtra are slated to take place later this year. Speaking at the press conference, NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that he thanks the PM for creating a conducive atmosphere for the MVA in the state by campaigning in the polls.
“Whenever PM Modi campaigned, held rallies and roadshows, we have won. So I feel it is my duty that we should thank PM Modi for creating a conducive political atmosphere for the alliance,” Pawar said while speaking in the joint press conference in South Mumbai which was also attended by Uddhav, and Congress’s Prithviraj Chavan and Balasaheb Thorat.
Chavan said that a preliminary meeting of the MVA took place before the press conference for the upcoming Assembly polls and expressed confidence that the MVA will together win the Assembly polls.
He also clarified that there is no big brother among the alliance partners and all are equal and the decision on the seat sharing will be taken based on merits of the each seat.
“There is no big or small brother in the MVA. We all are equal and united. We will sit, discuss and decide together about seat sharing based on the merits,” Chavan said on the reports of rift between the Congress and Sena UBT over seat sharing during the Lok Sabha polls and the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) polls.
“The victory in the Lok Sabha polls is not the end but it is just a beginning. The state has shown how hollow is the myth that the BJP is invincible. The battle of Lok Sabha was for saving the Constitution and democracy. The Modi government has now become the NDA government and there is no guarantee about how long this government will continue,” Uddhav said further adding that “MVA will contest the polls unitedly and will win the upcoming polls together.”
Uddhav further also said that BJP’s debacle is because of its allies and it must now realise that Marathi people will teach them a lesson in the polls again if they do not realise that the Mumbai cannot be looted as they are doing.
“Modi should realise that he is the PM of the country and not only Gujarat. I have no angst against Gujarat but all the states should get equal treatment and opportunities to progress and not only Gujarat,” Uddhav said.
Responding to the allegations of BJP and Shinde government that the MVA is spreading a fake narrative that the party will change the Constitution during the LS polls, which resulted into the BJP’s debacle, Uddhav asked why did they gave a slogan of 400 paar then and why did they say that the Constitution would be changed.
“What was the narrative of acche din used by Modi? What about the ‘snatching Mangalsutra’ and ‘taking away cows’ narrative? Were they true? The fact is that they are not honest and truthful. The people of the country have noticed their lies and falsehood. I am feeling proud that people of the country have waken up now and those who had trust on Modi have also lost it,” Uddhav said.
“Modi’s Prime Ministerial position was saved this time somehow. The BJP has suffered losses wherever it tried to misuse the name of Lord Ram. Now the Lord Ram has become BJP-mukt,” Uddhav said.
When asked Sharad Pawar if his nephew Ajit Pawar and other leaders of his NCP faction will be welcomed again in his fold, Pawar said, “There is no question of it.”
“The press conference is for thanking the people of the state for the Lok Sabha polls results and for voting to save the democracy. MVA achieved a good success in the LS polls. A primary meeting of the three leaders took place in the backdrop of Assembly polls. It can be said that the preparation for the assembly polls have been started and we will contest as one unit,” Chavan said.
