Mumbai Saturday recorded its lowest maximum temperature during March in the past two years.
The Santacruz observatory of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Saturday recorded 31.6 degree Celsius, which is two degree Celsius below normal and also the lowest day temperature in March 2021 and 2022. The previous lowest day temperature recorded in the city in March during the past two years was 31.7 degree Celsius.
Notably, on March 13, Mumbai became the hottest city in the country with the mercury soaring to 39.4 degree Celsius. However, experts said that the ongoing pre-monsoon spell has led to a drastic decline in day temperatures.
While Mumbai experienced light drizzles, several parts of interior Maharashtra including Nashik, Ahmednagar, Dhule, and Nandurbar had been experiencing hailstorms frequently this week.
Weather experts said Mumbai may continue to experience low day temperatures till early next week.
“At present, there is an incursion of moisture due to the passing of western disturbances which is being coupled by the interaction of dry and wet winds, that is making the current weather condition favourable for thunderstorms and rain. This interaction is likely to be there for a few more days for which Mumbai is likely to experience pleasant weather with low day temperature,” said an IMD official.
The IMD had already predicted that there would be a decline in day temperatures during the weekend.
Meanwhile, the IMD’s coastal observatory at Colaba also recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 degree Celsius Saturday. The relative humidity recorded at Santacruz and Colaba was 64 per cent and 67 per cent, respectively Saturday.
