A 42-year-old real estate agent was shot at by three unidentified persons in the Charkop area of Kandivali (West) on Wednesday afternoon, police said, adding that the assailants escaped on a motorcycle after committing the crime.
Police said that Freddy D’lima, despite sustaining bullet injuries, managed to drive his car to Oscar Hospital, where he was being treated. “Both the bullets were removed and he is currently out of danger,” said a crime branch official said.
Police said the incident took place around 2 pm when D’lima was leaving an English-medium school in Ganesh Nagar after meeting someone. As soon as he stepped out, three persons waiting outside opened fire. “One bullet hit in his abdomen and another hit in his chest,” the official said.
According to officers, the bike rider and one pillion were wearing helmets, while the third man was wearing a cap. The shooters had covered their faces with masks, police said.
The motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.
CCTV cameras in the area are being checked, and a forensic team has collected evidence from the spot, the official said.
A police officer said the real estate agent has enmity with several individuals, and some of them are being questioned “to get leads.”
A relative of the victim told mediapersons that D’lima had received a threat call three days earlier and the caller “had threatened him with dire consequences.” D’lima had approached the police and registered a non-cognisable offence. He also recorded the call and submitted it for investigation.
Charkop Police have registered a case of attempt to murder along with other relevant sections of the BNS.
