“We got a holiday. The kids don’t have school. The weather is good and you feel nice by the sea,” said Roshni Jhaveri, 35, who came to Marine Drive with her kids, husband and friends. She added that they were aware of the high tide warning, but were not worried by it. “We just need to be careful and not go too close to the edge,” she said.

Sudhir Ghorpade, who was enjoying the panoramic view with his wife and friend, was unperturbed by the high tide warning too. “One should come here (Marine Drive) in this weather only. Never mind the high tide,” he said. His wife said, “It is fun to do what you’re told not to.” Heena Mehta, 39, said she came to Marine Drive from Byculla to enjoy the “breeze”.
The police were, however, disturbed by the lack of caution displayed by the people. “We had issued a warning. We do so to keep people safe, but they need to be careful too,” said an inspector.
