Mumbai News Highlights: Saif Ali Khan, who sustained six stab wounds during the burglary attempt at his residence, beefed up his security shortly after getting discharged from the hospital.

Mumbai News Highlights: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who got discharged from the hospital on Tuesday following a stabbing attack, employed the services of fellow actor Ronit Roy’s firm to beef up his personal security. Roy was seen walking along Khan after he was discharged from the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday. This comes after Saif Ali Khan sustained multiple stab wounds during an attack inside his residence in Bandra last Thursday.

Saif Ali Khan’s attacker jumped over compound wall: The Mumbai police said on Tuesday that the Bangladeshi national arrested for attacking Saif Ali Khan gained entry into his home by jumping the wall of the complex. The man went over the short complex wall and found the two guards sleeping, the police said after recreating the crime scene on Tuesday. “As he found both the security guards in deep slumber, the accused entered the building from the main entrance where no CCTV camera has been installed. The accused removed his shoes and kept them in his bag to avoid making any noise and also switched off his phone,” a police officer said.

Attack accused sparks immigrant row: The nationality of the accused in Saif Ali Khan attack case sparked a row between the BJP and opposition, with the latter blaming the central government for increasing number of Bangladeshi immigrants in the country. Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders have been mounting attacks on BJP-led Maharashtra government, urging them to deport all illegal Bangladeshis living in the state.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has met auto-rickshaw driver Bhajan Singh Rana, who rushed him to hospital after he was injured in the knife attack at his home in Mumbai last week, and thanked him for the timely help.

The driver told PTI that Saif also gave him some money and assured all help to him whenever needed.

Asked how much money Saif gave him, Rana declined to disclose the exact amount, maintaining the actor requested him not to share this information.

However, the driver revealed that a social worker, Faizan Ansari, separately gave him Rs 11,000.

Rana said on reaching the Lilavati Hospital in Bandra just before Saif was discharged on Tuesday evening, he met the filmstar and his family members, and touched the feet of his mother, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, out of reverence.

The auto driver said they treated him with respect and also clicked pictures with him.

He said Khan promised to stay in touch with him. (PTI)

The auto driver said they treated him with respect and also clicked pictures with him.

He said Khan promised to stay in touch with him.

Khan (54) was repeatedly stabbed by a Bangladeshi national inside his 12th-floor apartment in the upscale Bandra area in the wee hours of January 16 during a robbery attempt. He suffered multiple stab injuries and underwent two surgeries at the private hospital, located a few kilometres away from the actor's building.

"I met him (Saif) yesterday (Tuesday) at the hospital. He called to thank me for taking him to the hospital. He praised me. I got the blessings from him and his family," the auto-rickshaw driver said.

"He (Khan) introduced me to his mother (Sharmila Tagore), and I touched her feet. He gave me (money) whatever he felt was right, and said whenever I need help he will be there," Rana said.

Mumbai News Live Updates: Multiple departments of forensic lab to examine evidence

Multiple departments under the Forensic Science Laboratory at Kalina in Mumbai will examine key pieces of evidence seized by the police investigating actor Saif Ali Khan's knife attack case, officials said on Wednesday.

Police on Sunday arrested the attacker, identified as Bangladeshi national Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, for stabbing Khan at his Bandra apartment on January 16 during a burglary bid.

A variety of materials, including mobile phones, clothes of the accused, and CCTV footage seized following the arrest of Fakir (30) alias Vijay Das, have been sent to the FSL for examination.

FSL departments such as Tape Authentication and Speaker Identification (TASI), Biology, DNA, Footprints, Physics, Cyber, and others will be involved in analysing the evidence, a police official said.

An official said police didn't notice blood stains on the clothes of the accused seized from his bag when he was arrested from Thane.

Actor Saif Ali Khan was discharged and returned home on Tuesday after the brutal attack in the wee hours of January 16. However, before leaving the hospital, Saif met the auto driver, Bhajan Singh, who rushed him to the hospital after he was attacked. As per reports, he was grievously injured and accompanied by his son Taimur and staff.

Now, a video of the auto driver narrating his meeting with the actor has surfaced online. He said Saif Ali Khan had personally called him on the day of discharge and requested to meet him.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed actor Saif Ali Khan to approach the appellate authority against the central government declaring historical properties of the Pataudi family, estimated to be worth Rs 15,000 crore, as enemy property.

Provisions of the Enemy Property Act allow the Centre to claim properties owned by individuals who migrated to Pakistan post-Partition. It was promulgated in 1968, after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.

In 2014, the Custodian of Enemy Property Department issued a notice declaring the Pataudi family’s properties in Bhopal as “enemy property.” The dispute intensified after a 2016 ordinance by the Government of India, which explicitly stated that heirs would have no rights over such properties belonging to the Pataudi family.

Prominent properties under scrutiny include the Flag Staff House, where Saif spent his childhood, Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, Dar-Us-Salam, Bungalow of Habibi, Ahmedabad Palace, and Kohefiza Property. The court had been hearing Khan’s challenge since 2015. Read More

A UPI transaction made through Google Pay (G Pay) for paratha and a bottle of water at a stall near Century Mill in Worli was the crucial lead that led Mumbai Police to Mohammad Shariful Islam (30) late Saturday night, nearly 70 hours after he allegedly attacked actor Saif Ali Khan in his Mumbai home, sources associated with the investigation told The Indian Express.

Mumbai News Live Updates: 3 Bangladeshi intruders sentenced to imprisonment

Three Bangladeshi nationals were sentenced to imprisonment and fined by the 8th Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Mumbai after being found guilty of illegally entering India and residing with forged documents.

The judgment was pronounced by Addl CJM Kanchan Zanwar, based on evidence presented by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police.

According to a release from the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police, the case began on April 24, 2024, when the Criminal Intelligence Squad, under the leadership of Police Station Incharge Milind Kathe, received confidential information about Bangladeshi nationals entering India without proper travel documents.

Mumbai News Live Updates: Attack accused in police station lockup, not shifted to jail

The accused in Saif Ali Khan attack case is kept in the lockup either at the Bandra or the Santacruz police stations (as per the probe requirement) and no one except the investigation officer has permission to meet him. He is being provided food given to the other accused as well, a Mumbai police official told PTI.

The accused, a native of Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh, was residing in Mumbai for more than five months, did odd jobs and was associated with a housekeeping agency, according to police.

The Bangladeshi national arrested for attacking Saif Ali Khan gained entry into the actor's building in Mumbai's Bandra area by scaling its compound wall, and found the security guards sleeping at that time, police said on Tuesday.

The Mumbai police on Tuesday recreated the crime scene with the accused at the Satguru Sharan building, where the actor resides.

A police official said, "Both the security guards in the building where actor Saif Ali Khan resides were sleeping when his attacker entered it by crossing over the boundary wall." "As he found both the security guards in deep slumber, the accused entered the building from the main entrance where no CCTV camera has been installed. The accused removed his shoes and kept them in his bag to avoid making any noise and also switched off his phone," he said. (PTI)
