Mumbai News Highlights: Four labourers suffocated to death one more person was injured while cleaning a water tank of an under-construction building in south Mumbai’s Nagpada area on Sunday morning. The incident was reported at the Bismillah Space building located on Dimtimkar Road. Others at the construction site alerted the fire brigade, which rescued the five men and rushed them to the state-run JJ hospital. However, doctors declared them dead, news agency PTI reported, quoting officials.

Heatwave advisory: A three-day heatwave alert issued for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane and Raigad, started today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast temperatures to soar above 38°C, with the alert lasting until Tuesday. This marks the city’s second heatwave of the season, following a similar alert issued between February 25 and 26.

Maharashtra to get Media Monitoring Centre: CM Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the state government’s proposed media monitoring centre, estimated to cost Rs 10 crore, is intended to provide “facts” in response to negative news reports. Addressing journalists on International Women’s Day, Fadnavis said: “We are setting up a system where news reports will be categorized… Media monitoring does not mean control of the media.” The Indian Express had first reported on March 5 that the Maharashtra government plans to establish a media monitoring centre to track news coverage related to the state government across print, electronic, social, and digital platforms.

Language row: MVA leaders protest against RSS leader's remarks

Leaders of the opposition MVA on Thursday staged a protest here against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi's remarks, and shouted slogans asserting Marathi is the language of Mumbai.

At an event in Ghatkopar area here on Wednesday, Joshi said, "Mumbai doesn't have a single language. Each part of Mumbai has a different language. Ghatkopar area's language is Gujarati. So if you are residing in Mumbai, it is not necessary that you have to learn Marathi."

On Thursday, the Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, including Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Congress leaders Vijay Wadettiwar, Bhai Jagtap, Nitin Raut and NCP (SP) state president Jayant Patil, took part in the protest at Hutatma Chowk in south Mumbai.

The memorial has been set up to honour 106 martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement in 1950s, which led to the state's creation.

The MVA leaders laid a wreath at the memorial and shouted slogans, asserting Marathi is the language of Mumbai.

After a strong criticism from the opposition over his remarks, Joshi on Thursday said Marathi is Mumbai's language and those coming from outside and speaking other languages should also understand it. (PTI)
